Employee Spotlight - Chris T

Our development team continues to grow as we strive to create the best products our industry can offer. Chris joins us as a front end developer and has been updating our existing form system and is now working on our new Self Registration interface, ready to be used at some of our events during the Autumn period. Being a front end developer with a keen eye for design... it all looks great! Here's a bit more about Chris...

How long have you worked for JET?
Just 3 months.

What have been your impressions of the events industry?
I’m surprised by how seasonal it is. I’d just assumed that they would be fairly evenly spread throughout the year.

If you were going to run an event, what would it be?
I’m quite into emerging technologies and design. An event which combined the two would be right up my street. There’s some particularly exciting things going on right now with virtual reality, and I’d love to meet some of the people involved in it and find out what they’re working on next.

First song bought?
‘Tubthumping’ by Chumbawumba ('I Get Knocked Down, But I Get Up Again').

The song you’d sing at karaoke?
‘Everybody Wants To Rule The World’ Tears for Fears.

Worst job you’ve had (hopefully not this one ;) )?
I used to work as a runner for a while in the film industry. Let’s just say that some celebrities are pretty unpleasant in person and leave it at that!

Favourite Film?
‘Das Boot’ an Odyssey-like epic set in the claustrophobic confines of a WW2 U-boat.

Who would play you in a movie?
John Malkovich.

Favourite Food?
Anything Italian – Good ingredients, put together in an uncomplicated way.

Favourite Drink?
Whisky – preferably single malt.

Favourite Holiday/Place to go on holiday?
Somewhere I can take my snowboard. I went to Japan last year and the slopes there were gorgeous.

If you could travel anywhere in the world tomorrow, where would you go?
Somewhere I haven’t been before. Greenland looks like a great place to go with a few rolls of Kodak for some analogue photography.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
Learning new skills. I’m moving house soon, so I’m studying some DIY right now.

What one thing could you never give up?
I depend on the internet for so many things. It’s the greatest resource of information to ever exist, so it’s hard to imagine going back to life without it.

Your biggest achievement?
My brother and I drove an old van from London to Mongolia. Putting up with him for a whole month was quite an achievement!

Tell us something we don’t know about you.
I have a ‘mind palace’ I use to categorise and retrieve bits of information I want to remember. For instance, to remember the genders of German words, I have different places for each gender. There’s a dog (Der Hund) in the living room because it is masculine, and a cat (Die Katze) in the garden because it is feminine.
