Laura – Project Manager

Team Spotlight

Laura is one of the longest-serving members of our team and has loads of experience, having helped event organisers with their event registration for nearly 15 years! Let’s find out a bit more about her…

When did you join JET?

August 2008

What’s your career history?

When I first started working (while still at school) it was at a leisure centre in the catering area and also as a lifeguard at weekends. I then progressed to become a fitness instructor, teaching a range of classes from aerobics and step aerobics to body balance. I left there and worked in the Halifax for a year or so, but was made redundant. I then worked for a fuel card company as an account manager but was made redundant from there on April Fools Day!  Next stop was for a company doing data entry… but I was made redundant again! I then came to work for what is now JET nearly 15 years ago and I’ve been here ever since! 😊

Where are you based?

Didcot, Oxfordshire.

What have been your impressions of the events industry?

With technology developing all the time it is how things quickly change.

If you were going to run an event, what would it be?

Anything to do with chocolate.

First song bought?

Hmm, I think it was the original Live Aid song.

The song you’d sing at karaoke?

I try not to do karaoke but if I had to I’d go with ‘Livin’ On a Prayer’ by Bon Jovi.

Worst job you’ve had (hopefully not this one 😉)?

I have not really had any bad jobs, but opening the café at the Didcot Wave on a Saturday and Sunday morning at 7am with a hangover after hardly any sleep due to getting in a 3am and then having to cook breakfasts was really not great!

Favourite Film?

Dirty Dancing.

Who would play you in a movie?

J-Lo.

Favourite Food?

I love food but I would say maybe Chinese.

Favourite Drink?

Espresso Martini.

Favourite Holiday/Place to go on holiday?

It has to be Kefalonia, it’s so quiet and unspoilt and a great place to sit and relax with a cocktail or two! Oh and Florida! 😊

If you could travel anywhere in the world tomorrow, where would you go?

Australia. I hope to get there one day.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

I think most of you know but I love going to watch Reading play football (however, not so much at the moment with how they are doing!).

Tell us something we don’t know about you.

Doing a parachute jump 10 years ago. I hate flying and I hate heights!
